The Best Luxembourg Castle Hotels
If you are looking for a unique experience while you are in Luxembourg and have always dreamed of staying in a castle, then why not try it while you are visiting Luxembourg. There is only a choice of two Luxembourg Castle Hotels, as the rest of the castles are either ruins, privately owned or run as visitor attractions by the state.
The two castle hotels in Luxembourg that you can stay in are very different and are located at different ends of this small country. One of the castles is in the north, close to the border with Belgium and Germany and the other is close to Luxembourg City.
One of them has a spa, an outdoor pool and a very good restaurant where you can enjoy views of the surrounding valley and the other is a small castle with just 4 rooms, all with different themes, and here you can explore nearly all the restored castle and feel at home there.

Chateau d’Urspelt
Chateau d’Urspelt is located in the north of Luxembourg just 4km north of the town of Clervaux and around 65km from Luxembourg City, a 1 hour drive away. It is located in Our Valley and was originally built in the 18th century on the footprints on an existing building from the 13th century.
The Urspelt Chateau is a National Monument and was lovingly restored in 2008 into a luxurious 4 star hotel with amazing views of the surrounding valley. In 2016 the castle was extended adding a new wing and now has 55 rooms and suites, a central courtyard, spa, pool and restaurant on-site.
This hotel is beautiful and amazing and one of the best located in Luxembourg. If you are looking to stay in a genuine castle and relax in the countryside, then this is certainly the place to come.
From June 2022 the castle now has a new heated outdoor swimming pool which can be enjoyed all year round.

Chateau de Clemency
Chateau de Clemency is the second castle available to stay in during your visit to Luxembourg. It is located just 25km or a 20 minute drive west of Luxembourg City. This castle is much smaller than Chateau d’Urspelt but it is actually a much older castle dating back to 1634.
The castle is much smaller, only having 4 bedrooms, each with a different theme, so be sure to pick the theme which best suits you. The owners have lovingly restored the property and also want people to enjoy it, making the lounge, kitchen and outside terrace a place where people can enjoy meeting each other and spending time together.
There might not be a spa or a swimming pool in this castle but it is in a great location for exploring Luxembourg and the styling of the rooms, reminds you that you are in a very old castle.
It’s very popular with the guests, who love the castle itself, the hosts and the village it’s located in as it’s easy to walk to nearby restaurants and supermarket.

Historic Hotels in Luxembourg Old Town
If you are wanting to stay in Luxembourg City, and are looking for where to stay in Luxembourg more centrally located, rather than a castle hotel. Then these hotels are great options, they are located within historic buildings that have been renovated with love and many of the old features of the rooms have been kept, but also making sure the room is to modern standards.
Le Place d’Armes – Luxembourg City
The Place d’armes is located in the old city centre and comprises of 7 historic houses that have been renovated to make 28 luxury rooms and suites. If you want to feel that you are in a historic house with the feel of luxury then this is the place to stay.
The Place d’Armes square dates back to 1671 and has the been the centre of the city since then, you will find many cafes and restaurants to pass your time and in summer there are open air concerts that you can enjoy.
It can be a little noisy in the square but the hotel does it’s best to limit the noise in the rooms. The hotel has been renovated to a very high standard, mixing art nouveau and modern styles. You will find original features have been kept in rooms including fireplaces.

Le Chatelet Hotel – Luxembourg City
From the outside you could be mistaken that The 3 star Chatelet Hotel is a castle, with its little turret in the corner. It is located in the Gare District of Luxembourg City in a historic building, about a 15 minute walk to Luxembourg old town. It is a family run hotel and had a major renovation in 2018.
The hotel has 37 rooms from double, triple, quadruple and family rooms. As part of your stay you can enjoy free use of the sauna and gym. The hotel also has 2 onsite restaurants where you can enjoy French and Spanish cuisine.

La Pipistrelle Hotel – Luxembourg City
The Pipistrelle hotel is located in an historic 18th century building in the Grund. It is conveniently located next to an elevator that will take you up to the old town so that you don’t have to walk up all the stairs. The hotel has been renovated well and you can even find walls in the rooms and hallways which have been built into the wall around the city.
Outside of the hotel you will find a little square where you can relax and people watch and less than a minutes walk away from the hotel you are beside the river and can see a beautiful view of Luxembourg City.
There are just 4 suites available in the hotel, so it is perfect if you are looking to stay somewhere quiet. Guests love the location and the attention given by the host.

Historic Hotels in Luxembourg
If one of the castles in Luxembourg or a historic hotel in Luxembourg City is not for you, then try these old hotels in different parts of Luxembourg. Stay in a building dating back to 1683 which was a locksmiths or stay in a tower built in 1550 as part of the fortification of the oldest town in Luxembourg. If you would like something more relaxing stay in a hotel at the thermal baths dating back to 1847.
Auberge Aal Veinen – Vianden
If a historic building is what you are looking for, then look no further than Auberge Aal Veinen. The building was previously a locksmiths and dates back to 1683!!
The rustic hotel has just 9 rooms and has been modernised but keeping many of the original features, especially in the common areas. The rooms have beautiful wooden ceilings with wooden beams and have been plastered using old techniques and painted white. All rooms have very modern bathrooms and tv’s.
It is located in the heart of Vianden at the bottom of the road to Vianden castle Luxembourg and a short walk to the river and the chairlift.
The hotel also has a restaurant where you can enjoy breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Turm Laange Veit – Echternach
If you would like to stay in the oldest town in Luxembourg then take a trip to Echternach which is practically on the border of Germany and stay in a medieval fortification tower. The tower that was part of the fortification of Echternach and dates back to 1550 has been turned into rental accommodation.
The tower has been renovated to give 3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, a kitchen and living room. From the living rooms you get beautiful views of the surrounding area and the river.
It is just a short walk to the centre of Echternach and perfect if you are planning on cycling or hiking part of the the Mullerthal trail.

Mondorf Parc Hotel & Spa – Mondorf
Looking to pamper yourself on your trip then look no further than the Mondorf Park Hotel & Spa. As early as 1847 people were coming to the thermal spa to enjoy the waters and it is now known as the place to go for thermal cures and relaxation.
