In this article I will help you find the Best Places to stay near Zion National Park to make the most of your trip, no matter your budget.
It’s become that popular that this year they decided to even introduce a lottery system for Angels Landing.
It can be hard to find places to stay in Zion National Park or even close by, as many people book their trips quite far in advance, even up to a year ahead, but there are many options within the park and outside of the park even if you book close to your trip, though you may have to pay a little more or choose to stay a little further away from the park depending on your budget.
In this guide you will find options to stay in Zion National Park Utah as well as in nearby Springdale and towns a little further away if you are on a more tight budget.

Staying in Zion National Park
If you prefer to stay within the park, then you have the option of 3 campgrounds or Zion Lodge.
Zion National Park Camping
If you would would like to camp in Zion National Park then there are 3 campgrounds, with 2 located in Zion Canyon, just next to the visitors centre. Reservations are recommended as the campsites can be full every night. Do not just turn up and hope to get a space. Also be prepared that there is very little cover in these campgrounds and you will be in the sun all day.
Watchman Campground
The Watchman Zion Campground is located just a few hundred metres from the South Entrance of Zion National Park next to the visitors centre and is open all year round. There are tent and electric hookup sites available. The campground has toilets but no shower facilities (these you can find available in Springdale). Tent only Campsites are available at $20 and Electric campsites are $30.
South Campground
South Campground Zion is open only from March until October and this too is located close to the visitors centre at the South Entrance. It is best to reserve in advance as the campsite is full nearly all of the season. There are no electric hookups at this site, but toilets are available (for showers you will need to go to Springdale). Tent campsites are available for $20.
Lava Point Campground
Lava Point Campground Zion is located outside of Zion National Park, around 1 hour 20 minutes drive from the South Entrance of the park via Virgin. It is a primitive campground with only 6 sites available. It is generally open between May and September but this is dependent on the weather.
There is no electricity or water at the site and it is only available for tent camping. There are pit toilets and trash cans available too, but no water or showers. It is best to book in advance as it’s normally fully booked.
The Zion Lodge in Zion National Park
Zion National Park accommodation is available within the park at the Zion Lodge, but it can get booked up very early in advance. The lodge is located 3 miles north of the South Entrance on the Zion Canyon Scenic Drive and is open all year round. Zion Lodge also has a gift shop, post office, restaurant and cafe. You can choose from hotels rooms or suites or to stay in one of the twenty eight historic cabins on site.
Where to stay outside of Zion National Park
The best towns near Zion National Park are Springdale as it is located just outside the park and Saint George which is around an hour drive from Zion National Park, though there are many towns in between where you have options of places to stay.
There are many hotels near Zion National Park Utah as the town of Springdale is located just outside the entrance to Zion National Park and the park operates a shuttle throughout the town to pick up hotel guests and anyone who is unable to get parked in the car park within the park. If you are unable to get parked within the park then you are able to park outside the park and either get the shuttle in or walk in.
Springdale also gets booked up very early in advance, the cheaper places can be booked up to a year ahead, so if you know you are going and have set dates for visiting the park then it is best to book your zion national park lodging as soon as you can.

Zion National Park Hotels in Springdale
Wondering where to stay near Zion National Park, then Springdale is your nearest option, outside of the park. It is located on the edge of Zion National Park just a few hundred metres from the entrance and has a population of around 600 people, though this obviously increases a lot in summer when the most tourists visit the park.
It was originally settled by the Mormon’s in 1862 as a farming community though its economy is now based on the tourists visiting the area to see Zion National Park. It is located at an altitude of 1,188 metres above sea level and covers an area of 12km squared.
Springdale is a great little town, and is centered around the one road that leads to Zion National Park. Here you will find many hotels, restaurants and souvenir shops. You can also rent bikes if you are planning on going on a active holiday and you can rent clothing for hiking the Narrows. Renting bikes is a great option if you are limited for time and want to get into the park and start hiking before the first shuttle leaves at 6am.
Cable Mountain Lodge
Located just a few minutes from the entrance of Zion by foot, the Cable Mountain Lodge is the closest hotel to Zion National Park, so it is perfect if you are wanting to get an early start in the park.
The lodge has options to suit every budget from studios to suites and residences and the 78 rooms can accommodate from 1-8 people. The rooms are beautiful and you also have access to a seasonal pool, hot tub and beach.
The suites and residences have either kitchenettes or full kitchens if you want to stay in and cook after a long day hiking, though the hotel has a restaurant on site, the Zion Brew Up.
The hotel also has a spa on site, so if you need a massage to recover from your hiking then it’s the place to be.

Zion Canyon Lodge
Zion Canyon Lodge Hotel is located within walking distance to the entrance of Zion National Park and offers rooms with mountain views and terraces. All rooms have air conditioning/heating, free parking, a flat screen tv and private bathroom.
There is free wifi and free continental breakfast available to all guests. The family suite comes with a built in kitchen for those wanting to cook for themselves rather than eat out. The hotel opened in May 2019, so it is very new and modern, with pictures of Zion Canyon on the walls of every room.
The negatives to the zion canyon lodge utah is that there is no swimming pool and there is no onsite restaurant for lunch or dinner, but as it is located in Springdale there are many options within walking distance of the lodge.

Red Rock Inn Zion
Where to stay at Zion National Park, can be a difficult decision but zion Red Rock Inn is situated only 1.2 miles from Zion National Park. Red Rock Inn Zion Cottages are modern cottages and some of them come with views of the canyon and gardens.
Red Rock Inn cottages Zion include a kitchenette and have spa tubs. All rooms have air conditioning, coffee machine, flat screen TV’s. The rooms also have bathrobes and free toiletries. Some rooms have a seating area either inside or outside the room for relaxing. There is free wifi throughout.

St George Utah Lodging
Accommodation in St George can be a lot cheaper than in Springdale but it is about 45 minutes to an hour’s drive to the entrance of Zion National Park. When I visited Zion, the prices were too expensive for me in Springdale as I left it till a few days before to look for accommodation, so I opted to stay in St George which gives great alternatives options for Zion hotels.
St George has a population of around 90,000 and is located 118 miles northeast of Las Vegas which has the nearest International Airport though there is a small region airport that operates in St George. It is 40 miles from St George to Zion National Park, though there are a few state parks close by. Snow Canyon is 10 miles away and Sand Hollow is 13 miles away.
The Chalet

Each room has air conditioning, flat screen tv, bathtub, microwave, refrigerator and dining table. Some of the rooms also include a kitchen.
A vending machine is also located on site.

The Comfort Inn at Convention Center Saint George

Which is better – Zion Lodge or Springdale Hotels?
Zion Lodge is located within the national park and half way down the Zion Scenic Drive, in summer you are able to drive to the lodge but only the shuttles operate, giving you access to explore the park earlier than 6am when the first shuttle operates. The Zion Lodge shuttle stop is also the start of the Emerald Pools hike and close to Angels Landing.
Zion Lodge only has 75 rooms and is booked up far in advance (sometimes up to a year ahead), there is also only 1 restaurant and cafe at this location.
What are the advantages of Staying inside Zion National Park?
The advantages of staying in the park, whether at Zion Lodge or at one of the two campsites, is that you can don’t need to travel to get to the park, though if you are there during a holiday, you may still need to queue for a long time to get the shuttle. If you stay at Zion Lodge, you can walk to many of the popular hikes, without needing to use the shuttle bus.
What are the advantages of staying in Springdale?
There are many advantages to staying in Springdale, it is located just outside the park, so you can visit the park very early without having to drive far. You can also just catch the park shuttle to the visitors centre.
Springdale has many different hotel options, from small Bed & Breakfasts, to big hotels with spa facilities and pools. The town itself also has many shops and restaurants if you are looking for something to do on an evening, rather than staying in and relaxing.
Depending on how organised you are, Zion Lodge might not be an option and as Springdale is located just outside the park, the hotels there are also great options. In the town of Springdale there are also options of many restaurants and shops and also hotels with pools to relax in if you wish.
Where is the best town to be staying during your visit to Zion?
Personally I think that Springdale is the best town to stay in when visiting Zion National Park, though the cost of the hotels and motels can be more expensive that towns like Saint George. I think though that the extra price is worth it, so that you don’t need to be driving an hour to the park, especially if you are going to be visiting at a busy time of the year.
There is no public transport to Springdale from nearby towns or Las Vegas, the only options are taxi, shuttles or to rent a car. Zion National Park has a shuttle bus that runs from Springdale to the park from early morning till late evening so you don’t need to drive from your hotel to the park and it is possible to visit the park without a car once you are in Springdale.
If you are planning on visiting more than one national park in area, then it will be best to rent a car, it is very easy from Zion to drive to Bryce Canyon and to also visit Arches and Canyonlands in Moab.
