Weather in Zion National Park in June
June in Zion National Park marks the start of summer, with average temperatures around 82°f (28°c). Daytime highs usually range between 83°f and 95°f (28°c-35°c), offering warm and sunny conditions and you need to make sure you have the correct clothing, sun protection and water for any hikes. Mornings and nights remain cooler, with lows sometimes dropping to around 50°f (10°c).
June brings even longer days to explore as it’s the longest month of the year, with sunrise at around 6:15 a.m. all month. Sunset is 8:45 p.m. at the beginning of the month and 8:45 p.m. by the end, providing you lots of daylight to get as many hikes in as you can.
Rain is infrequent, with only 3 days of rain on average. However, the Narrows may still be closed due to high water levels from late spring snowmelt upstream. In the past 6 years the Narrows have been closed 2 years until late June.
Is June a good time to visit Zion National Park ?
June is the busiest time of year at Zion National Park, with the highest number of visitors. June 2024 had the highest number of visitors ever, with over 613,000 people visiting the park that month.
If you do want to visit zion in June, then you can expect long queues for the shuttles and the most popular hikes to be busy, though now that the Angels Landing permit system has been implemented, you will no longer see the crowds on Angels Landing as before.
Is the Zion shuttle operating in June?
In June, the Zion Canyon Scenic Drive stays closed to private vehicles, except for guests at Zion Lodge, so you’ll need to take the shuttle or rent a bike to explore Zion Canyon.
In June 2025, the first shuttle departs from the visitor center at 6 a.m., with the last bus into the park at 7 p.m. and the final return from the Temple of Sinawava at 8:15 p.m. Be aware that if the last bus is full, you may have to walk the 9 miles back to the visitor center, so plan accordingly!
Camping in Zion in June
The Watchman Campground remains the only open campground at the East Entrance to Zion National Park and is conveniently located near the visitor center. This campground is reservation-only, so be sure to book in advance, with reservations available up to 6 months ahead.
The South Campground, also near the visitor center, is currently closed for rehabilitation work to prevent further flooding during heavy rainstorms.
Lava Point Campground typically is open in June. It offers only 6 primitive campsites with pit toilets and trash cans, but there is no running water on site or nearby, so come prepared. Reservations need to be made either online or over the phone and blocks of two weeks are released at a time.
Hiking Zion In June
June is the busiest month of the year in Zion National Park, so expect crowds while hiking. Most trails will be open, but The Narrows can still be impacted by high water levels and may be closed till mid June due to late spring runoff. This has happened twice in the past six years.
Angels Landing is a popular hike in June, as conditions are generally great. The Upper Emerald Pool and Canyon Overlook Trail are also beautiful hikes to consider during this time, with the canyon overlook trail being a little quieter as you need a car to get to the start.
If the Narrows is closed due to high water, the Riverside Walk is still worth exploring, as it takes you to the start of The Narrows and offers stunning views along the way.
If you are planning on visiting in June, try starting as early as possible if you want to avoid the biggest crowds of the year.
Things to do in Zion National Park in June
In June, Zion National Park offers a variety of activities, with nearly all focused on the park’s stunning outdoor scenery. Hiking is the top attraction, with trails for all skill levels, from easy walks to more challenging hikes.
For shorter hikes, trails like the Riverside Walk, Lower Emerald Pools provide breathtaking views of the canyon without requiring long hours on the trail. (Note: Weeping Rock remains closed due to a rockslide, with no estimate for reopening). June brings lush greenery and vibrant wildflowers, adding extra beauty to these hikes.
In addition to hiking, you can take a scenic drive along the Zion-Mount Carmel Highway, which offers spectacular overlooks and great photo opportunities. Be sure to stop for the Zion Canyon Overlook Trail, with the start located on the other side of the tunnel, where you’ll get stunning views down into the canyon.

Can you hike Angels Landing in June?
June is the most popular time to hike Angels Landing, and you may find that there are crowds up to Scout’s Landing, beyond this though it will be much more enjoyable as the park has implemented the Angels Landing permit system, meaning that there are no longer the queues of people trying to get to the end.
Early mornings and late evenings can still be cool due to the elevation, so be sure to bring warm layers. Make sure to apply online your your Angels Landing permit in advance if you want to hike beyond Scout’s Landing.
Always check with the rangers at the visitor center for the latest weather conditions to ensure it’s safe, especially if storms are in the forecast.
Can you hike the Narrows in June?
Yes, you can hike the Narrows in June, but be prepared for chilly water temperatures, typically ranging from 55°F to 60°F (13°C to 16°C), though conditions can vary. In June, you won’t need a drysuit, though it is recommended to have canyoneering boots, neoprene socks, and hiking sticks, which are available for rent in Springdale.
In the past 6 years, two of the years the Narrows was closed from April to late June, due to late snow melt off and high river levels, so it is possible that if you plan on hiking the narrows at the beginning of June it may not be possible.
