Luxembourg July Weather
July averages around 15-16 hours of daylight, so you will have plenty of time to explore the cities and countryside in Luxembourg, without worrying about it getting dark early.
You can still expect rain in July, but the number of days of rain has reduced from 19 to 11, making it a much better month than June. In June though you can expect the temperatures to be higher, with the average temperature during the day around 73°f (23°c), though in 2023 there were 18 days with temperatures between 70°f and 91°f (21°c and 32°c)
Weatherwise, July is a good month to pick as the temperatures are nice and there is less rain than the previous months.
Do many people visit Luxembourg in July?
July is one of the busiest months in Luxembourg for tourists, but when you compare it to other countries in Europe the number of visitors is low. On average around 1.2 million people visit Luxembourg yearly, whereas over 10 million people visit Spain just in July!!
Luxembourg City and Vianden Castle may seem quite busy during this month, due to the increase in the number of visitors but you also have to remember that Luxembourg City, especially the old part of it, is quite small and easily walkable, so it may seem overcrowded compared to other months.
In July most of the European Countries have school holidays and you will find that most visitors to this small country are from Belgium, France and Germany, with smaller numbers from other European Countries.
Things to do in Luxembourg in July
There are many things to do in Luxembourg in July, as it is a great time to get outdoors and explore the countryside. If you are just spending a few days in Luxembourg, then spend a day exploring Luxembourg City and then spend a day visiting Viaden Castle and other castles close by.
Luxembourg City
July is a great time to walk around and explore Luxembourg City, as there are fewer days of rain, you will hopefully be able to explore without needing to escape the rain. But if you do encounter rain, then make sure to spend this time, exploring a few of the many museums in the city.
I would recommend doing a free walking tour of the old city, to learn the history and see the main sites, from there you can then decide which places to visit. I would recommend exploring the Bock Casemates, which were the underground cellars under the old castle, but then was used to defend the city, with cannons being fired from there on anyone attacking the city.
From the Bock Casemates you can then walk the Chemin de Corniche which is the wall that goes around the old city, from the top of the wall, you can look down into the valley and see the river that runs around the old town.
Vianden Castle

The most popular castle in Luxembourg and one of the most visited places in Luxembourg. Located an hour from Luxembourg City by car, close to the border with Germany, you will find this restored castle, sat on an outcrop of rock above the town of Vianden.
It is a beautiful castle to visit and the town too. The town dates back to the end of the 7th century and now you can enjoy exploring the town, visiting one of the many restaurants there and even taking a chairlift, up the mountain, to a viewpoint above the castle.
Echternach
The town of Echternach is the oldest town in Luxembourg dating back to 698AD, it lies on the border with Germany, if you cross the river in the town, then you will be in the German City of Echternacherbruck.
Not only it is a beautiful little town to explore, especially in summer, but the Mullterthal Trail can be started from here. The whole trail is 112km but it is possible to do sections of it. I did part of the trail and saw some people in places but not many. At the end of the day, I got the bus back from one of the villages to Echternach.
What to wear in July in Luxembourg
The weather can be quite nice in July and in general, there are fewer rainy days in the month, though it is best if you carry either a light waterproof jacket or umbrella with you during the day in case it is needed.
During the day it is quite hot and so you can wear shorts and T-shirts or light skirts or dresses, depending on the activities you are doing and what you are most comfortable wearing.
As you can walk quite far as there is a lot to see, whether you are in Luxembourg City, Vianden or Echternach, it is best to make sure that you have comfortable footwear, that you are used to walking long distances in.
