Weather in Zion National Park in April
April in Zion National Park brings warmer weather as spring takes hold, with average temperatures around 61°F (16°C). Daytime temperatures typically range from 61-72°F (16-22°C), making it ideal for hiking activities. However, mornings and nights can still be chilly, with temperatures dropping to as low as 36°F (2°C).
April also offers longer days to explore, with daylight savings in effect. At the beginning of the month, sunrise is at 7:15 a.m., and by the end of April, it moves to about 6:40 a.m. Sunset shifts from 7:55 p.m. early in the month to 8:20 p.m., giving you more daylight to enjoy the park.
While April is generally drier than March, there’s still a chance of rain, with around 6 days of rain on average. Snow is unlikely, but if it does occur at higher elevations and some trails may be closed for safety, like Angels Landing. Roads are well-maintained and remain open, allowing for easy access to the park even if the weather turns.
Is Zion National Park busy in April?

Is the Zion Shuttle Operating in April?
The Zion Shuttle started running again in March, meaning that in April the Zion Canyon Scenic Drive is closed to private vehicles, except for guests staying at Zion Lodge.
In April, the first shuttle departs the visitor center at 7 a.m., and the last one leaves at 5 p.m. The final return shuttle from Temple of Sinawava, the last stop where you can access the Riverside Walk and The Narrows, departs at 7:15 p.m. Keep in mind that the last shuttle can sometimes be full, and if that happens, you may need to walk the 9 miles back to the visitor center. Plan accordingly to avoid this happening.
Camping in Zion in April
In April, the only campground open in Zion National Park is the Watchman Campground, conveniently located near the visitor center. This campground is reservation-only, so you’ll need to book in advance, with reservations opening up 6 months in advance.
Each site at Watchman Campground has space for either a tent or an RV, and includes a picnic table and a fire ring. The campground has 176 sites, with 69 for tents and 65 for RVs. While there are restrooms available, there are no showers on site. If you need shower facilities, they can be found in Springdale, just a short walk from the park.
Hiking Zion in April
Hiking in Zion National Park in April can be a fantastic experience, with fewer crowds compared to the busier summer months, though it has started to get busier in the park. Some trails may close due to spring weather conditions and with rain off and this is most likely with The Narrows.
If you’re planning to hike The Narrows, water temperatures will still be cold, so renting a dry suit is highly recommended. Angels Landing can also be challenging, especially in the early mornings when there may still be ice in shaded areas, making the final section beyond Scout’s Landing potentially hazardous. Be sure to check trail conditions before setting out.
The two most popular hikes in the park are Angels Landing and The Narrows, here are some alternatives:
