I was having a great day and it got even better when I got a message from Lauren @ The Holiday Designer advising me that she had nominated me for The Liebster Award. It is an internet award given to bloggers by bloggers. It was created to recognize and discover new bloggers, where each person nominated answers 11 questions given to them by the person who nominated them so you can get to know them a little better. After I must nominate 3 new bloggers and give them 11 questions to answer.
Here are my questions:
What kind of traveller are you?
I love history and exploring, so you would normally find me in and amongst ruins, castles, temples, churches , getting a feel of the place and learning more about the culture of the country. I like to be up early and seeing as much of as place as I can, I find my rest days never happen as there is something else I need to explore. It can be exhausting and I do think I need to learn to do it all a bit slower and take time for myself!! I have been saying this for 4 years and it’s still not happened!!
Best book you’ve read on holiday/travelling?
I can’t say I have a favourite book, but I love reading Harlan Coben & James Patterson. I always have my kindle with me so I do get to find a nice spot to relax and have a read.
What’s your handiest travel hack?
I always keep my wires/chargers in a mesh wash bag so I don’t lose anything and always have it in my hand luggage just in case the checked in bag does not arrive. Also I keep a spare set of underwear and a top in my hand luggage too for the same reason.
What’s the best hotel or hostel you’ve stayed in and why?
The best hostel I have ever stayed in, was in Key West, Florida. For $30 a night I got a bed in a 4 bed dorm room, free breakfast which was amazing and the place had 3 swimming pools and 2 jacuzzis. It was heaven and I would love to stay in this hostel again.
Which country have you visited that wasn’t how you expected it to be and why?
I have to say China, before I went I only thought about the language barrier and written words being so different. I wasn’t prepared for the number of people and how different the culture is to the UK. Trying to queue in a toilet in a train station, I soon learnt that’s not what you do, everything is a fight to get anywhere but with 1.4 billion people in the country you soon learn why.
Which country that you’ve visited has the best food?
It’s a hard one, I have had good food in lots of countries but I think I would have to say I had some amazing food in Peru, but then I am also probably the only traveller who put on weight travelling through Asia!!
Which item do you never travel without?
I could never travel without my camera, my pictures are my souvenirs and memories of a place so I would be lost without it.
What do you recommend travellers to do when they visit your hometown?
If someone visited my local town of Wakefield in the North of England, I would say for a rainy day there is the Hepworth Museum & we have a new shopping centre. On a nice day then you could visit the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, Pugneys Country Park is nice for a walk or sailing/kayak on the lake, Sandal Castle & Thornes Park.
Have you ever met someone on a trip that changed your life or opinions on something?
I have met many people from different countries and cultures who have opened my eyes to whats important in life. I have met people who are very poor and have so little but they appreciate what they have and are the happiest people in I have met, whereas compared to them a lot of people in the UK have everything, but are not happy and do not appreciate what they have, they just want more.
Best historic monument you’ve ever visited?
I have been very lucky to visit a lot of historic monuments it’s the thing I like to do but my favourite would have to be Machu Picchu, I have visited 3 times and is such an amazing & beautiful place and I can’t wait to visit again.
What’s next on your travel agenda?
Next on the agenda is a trip to Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia in September. Can’t wait for this trip as I have been wanting to explore this part of the world. October I have a chill out beach holiday booked to Corfu.
