Hi I am Clare. I was born in Wakefield in the North of England and spent my life there until I left to travel the world in 2012.
I decided that I wanted to write a blog as I am always getting messages from friends I have met around the world, asking advice about where to visit and where to stay in certain countries and so I wanted a place where I could document the travels I have done so far and ones I will do in the future.
My first trip abroad was on the french exchange with school when I was 13, a 28 hour bus journey to the south of France, which for someone who gets very travel sick, probably the worst journey of my life! Here is a picture of me with my french exchange family, I am at the right.
The following year I went on a history trip to France & Belgium and it wasn’t until I was 21 that I first flew and this was to Majorca, Spain.
A few years after this I started to do organised tours and have visited many countries doing these Eg US, Canada, Peru, Egypt, Europe. To date I have done 16 tours. I loved that you were travelling with other people who wanted to see the world , it’s all organised for you and you could see so much in a 2 or 3 week trip as I could never get longer off work than this. The more I travelled the more addicted I became, I used to cry on the plane home at the thought of having to come back to England and was so jealous of the people I met who were travelling for longer.
I finally made the decision when I was in Cambodia/Vietnam that I needed to travel full time, so I came home, sold my house, quit my job and finally in 2012 began travelling the world. I had managed to see 27 countries before my trip began and by the end of 2015 I had seen another 25. I am now at a total of 57 countries.
At times its difficult, people don’t realise that travelling is not a holiday, there is a lot of planning and organising to be done, but it’s the best decision I ever made and I don’t regret it for a second. My days are so different and I get to see so many cultures and amazing places all over the world.
I don’t know where I will go in the future, I love the whole flexibility of backpacking and how plans can change from day to day. I did say I would like to visit 100 countries in my life but who knows, maybe I will decide I want to try and see them all!!
I hope you enjoy seeing and hearing about my travels.
