When I decided I wanted to visit Santa Marta in Colombia I was told about a great hike to do there and as I love hiking, I decided I had to find time to fit this hike in. Instead of staying in Santa Marta I stayed in a little fishing village nearby called Taganga and stayed in La Tortuga Hostel. I had been living in New Zealand for about 4 months when myself and some friends decided that as it was getting to the end of summer we should rent a car and go for the weekend to visit Hobbiton. We rented a car and set off on the 2 hour drive to Matamata where the Hobbiton movie set is located. Once on the road we rung up to book a time slot to ensure that we wouldn’t have a long wait once we arrived as we had heard it can get busy, especially over the summer months. Continue reading
A trip to Iceland would not be complete without Seeing the Northern Lights. I had been recommended a company to use by a friend who was in Iceland when I arrived and so I decided to go with them.
Happyworld Iceland are a small company that offer an amazing experience, our group was 6, they only have small jeeps and so the groups are never big, this means that they can take you to spots that the big bus companies won’t go, it also means that on days when the other bus companies don’t go out, they will look at the cloud forecast and choose a location for us to try and see the lights. One of the places I had dreamed of going for years is Iguazu Falls (In the Guarani language it means “big waters”) on the border of Argentina & Brazil. You can see the falls from both countries. It was discovered by Alvar Nunuz Cabeza de Vaca in 1542 and became a national park in 1934 and declared World Natural Heritage by UNESCO in 1984. Continue reading
